§ Mr. AMERYSo far as the Colonies and Protectorates are concerned, during the past year the Customs preference allowed on articles imported into Mauritius from the United Kingdom has been considerably increased, the preference in the case of motor cars now being 75 per cent. of the ordinary tariff rate and on lorries 66⅔ per cent. The Government of the State of North Borneo in December, 1927, introduced a preferential rebate of 25 per cent. of the import duty on certain articles consigned from and produced or manufactured in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of which the following is a list:
- Chemicals and dyes.
- Cloth, clothing, haberdashery.
- Cutlery.
- Earthenware, crockery and porcelain
- Glassware.
- Machinery and machines.
- Metals.
- Perfumery.
- Timepieces.
- Vehicles.
- Vessels.
