HC Deb 04 February 1929 vol 224 cc1421-2W
Mr. DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has any statistics that will show the number of deaths that have taken place in India during the previous 12 months either from leprosy, small-pox, or diphtheria, respectively; and will he give particulars?

Earl WINTERTON

Complete figures for the year 1928 have not yet been received. According to the weekly returns furnished by the Government of India, the number of deaths from smallpox in British India for the period 1st January to 15th December, 1928, was 36,184. Corresponding figures for leprosy and diphtheria are not available as deaths from these diseases are not separately recorded in the returns.
