HC Deb 09 December 1929 vol 233 cc46-7W
Major POLE

asked the Secretary of State for India the establishment of the reorganised provincial unit and the new urban unit of the Indian Territorial Farce; and for figures showing the expenditure from Indian revenues in 1928–29 and the estimated expenditure in the present year on each of these arms?

Mr. BENN

The establishment of a company of the Indian Territorial Force both in provincial and urban units is two senior officers, four junior officers and 167 other ranks; and of a battalion 12 senior officers, 19 junior officers and 694 other ranks. The provincial units consist of 18 battalions, and the urban units of one battalion and three separate units of two companies each. The figures available do not show the expenditure on provincial and urban units separately. The total expenditure on the Territorial Force for 1928–29 was Rs.22,64,000, and the estimated expenditure for 1929–30 is Rs.29,55,000. To the latter should be added Rs.7,75,000 expended by Army and engineer services for stores and works expenditure incurred on account of the Force, bringing the total to Rs.37,30,000.
