HC Deb 09 December 1929 vol 233 c76W
Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies the number of Jews and Arabs that have been sentenced to death in Palestine since the recent riots and for what offences; and how many have appealed and with what result?

Dr. SHIELS

One Jew and eight Arabs have been sentenced to death. I am unable to furnish details of the various charges. The law provides for an appeal in all cases. Four appeals were down for hearing last week. I have seen a Press report to the effect that one appeal was dismissed; but I have received no report from the High Commissioner on the subject.
