HC Deb 19 April 1929 vol 227 cc534-5W
Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for War the total number of men at present under training at the Army vocational training centres; and whether he can also give the approximate accommodation at these centres at any one time?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

The total number of serving soldiers under training at the three centres was 1,067 on 6th April last. In addition 26 soldiers were receiving outside instruction arranged in connection with the centres. There were also at Chisledon at that date 47 ex-Service families, under a scheme arranged with the Overseas Settlement Department and the British Legion, and 168 single civilians, under a scheme arranged with the Ministry of Labour. The approximate maximum accommodation at any one time is for 1,170 serving soldiers, including those undergoing outside instruction, 50 families and 400 single civilians.
