HC Deb 19 April 1929 vol 227 cc535-6W
Sir J. DAVIDSON

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that Mrs. Josephine Grote Burt, who in or about 1925 was an inmate of Bedford County Asylum, has now been removed to an institution elsewhere, and all information as to her present whereabouts is denied to her husband by her solicitors and also by the board of control, when appealed to in accordance with Section 51, which provides that search may be instituted in such cases; and, in view of the anxiety of her husband, who has lost sight both of his wife and of his daughter, will he see that the application made by her husband is granted.

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would remind the hon. and gallant Member that, under the section to which he refers, it is within the discretion of the Board of Control to determine whether information shall be given. I am not empowered to give any direction under this section, but I have inquired into the circumstances of the case and am satisfied that there are proper grounds for the Board's decision.
