HC Deb 27 November 1928 vol 223 cc246-7W
Sir T. WATTS

asked the Postmaster-General if he has received repeated complaints of the postal facilities in the Withington district of Manchester, both as to the late delivery of the morning mail and the early hour at which the last collection from pillar boxes is made; and will he take steps to give the same facilities as in other business districts.

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

No recent complaints have been received. The first delivery is generally completed by 8.45 a.m. except in outlying districts where housing development is proceeding, and on occasions of abnormal pressure. A somewhat earlier completion is anticipated when revised arrangements are brought into force, probably within the next few months, and it may be possible at the same time to provide an additional collection from the Withington Post Office at 8.30 p.m.; but the present time (7.45 p.m. at the town sub-office) is the latest which will admit of connection with the general night mail despatch from Manchester.
