HC Deb 19 November 1928 vol 222 c1402W
Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department,, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether the contractors who supply men for window cleaning in the Palace of Westminster and other public buildings under his control carry out the provisions contained in the Fair Wages Clause usually inserted in Government contracts; and do these window-cleaning contracts contain such a Clause?

Sir V. HENDERSON

The Fair Wages Clause is inserted in all window-cleaning contracts, and, so far as the Department is aware, it is being observed in all cases. The First Commissioner, however, will be glad to have inquiries made into any case in which the hon. Member has reason to believe that the contractor is attempting to evade the conditions of his contract.
