HC Deb 15 November 1928 vol 222 cc1100-1W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that systematic overtime is being worked at the Holloway factory of the Post Office stores department; whether he will state the reason; and whether he will consider the advisability of reducing overtime to a minimum and so increase the number of persons employed?

Viscount WOLMER

It has been necessary to work overtime at this factory recently on account of increase of work, partly temporary, and vacancies among the staff. Steps are being taken in the direction indicated by the hon. Member, and I hope that it will soon be possible to discontinue regular overtime. The vacancies referred to relate to skilled craftsmen.
