HC Deb 14 November 1928 vol 222 c908W
Sir H. LUCAS-TOOTH

asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention iris been drawn to the case of Horace Charles Miller, who was discharged from the post office at Ely for misconduct with a female clerk; whether he is aware that he and his wife are now utterly destitute, their only son having been killed in the War; and, in view of the fact that he was within four years of being pensionable at £4 per week plus £400 gratuity, after more than 30 years' faithful service, whether he is prepared to take any steps whatever to assist him as an act of clemency?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I am aware of the circumstances to which my hon. Friend refers, but regret that I cannot offer Mr. Miller any further employment in the Post Office service. There is no authority under the Superannuation Acts for making him an award out of public moneys, and there is no fund at my disposal out of which a grant could be made to him.
