§ Mr. LUNNasked the Minister of Labour what are the fees or emoluments paid to those who sit as assessors, employer and employed, with the chairman of the court of referees, under the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1923.
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDFees or emoluments are not paid to members of courts of referees other than to chairmen, but certain allowances are paid which are shown in the leaflet I am sending the hon. Member.
§ Mr. THURTLEasked the Minister of Labour, if, in view of the fact that unemployed young men when appearing before committees in connection with claims for benefit are sometimes asked if they have tried to join the Army, he will make it clear that failure to make application to join the armed forces is not held to be evidence that those concerned are not genuinely seeking work.
§ Sir A. STEEL-MAITLANDI assume that the hon. Member refers to courts of referees. These courts are independent statutory bodies and I have no power to interfere with them.
