asked the Minister of Transport the number of accidents that have occurred at level crossings in Great Britain for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date; how many of these accidents occurred at crossings over the main lines; and will he state, separately, the number of accidents to motorists and pedestrians, stating the number that resulted fatally?

The number of accidents to persons using motor vehicles and to pedestrians at railway level crossings of public and private roads and footpaths (excluding goods and dock lines) for the 12 months ended 30th September, 1928, was as follows:

Persons using motor vehicles:

  • Number of Accidents, 17
  • Number of killed, 9*.

Pedestrians:

  • Number of Accidents, 46.
  • Number of killed, 38†.

* Of these, three were on public road crossings and six on private road crossings.

† Of these, nine were on public road crossings and 29 on private road crossings or footpaths.
