HC Deb 24 May 1928 vol 217 cc2079-80W
Mr. SHINWELL

asked the Minister of Pensions the grounds of his refusal to increase the allowance of 5s. weekly awarded to Mrs. M'Dermott, 8, Johnson Terrace, Stoneyburn; and whether he is prepared to reopen the case?

Major TRYON

The case of Mrs. M'Dermott has been fully investigated on several occasions, the latest of which was as recently as February of this year. She is 53 years of age, her husband is still living, and, in addition, she has two able-bodied sons and three daughters to whom she should be able to look for support. In the circumstances the Ministry are unable to make a higher allowance in respect of the disabled son than the sum of 5s. weekly which is at present being paid. I am not prepared to reopen the case.
