HC Deb 23 May 1928 vol 217 cc1904-5W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if the owner of the Shiel estate personally occupies any portion of it, or whether the sporting rights of the estate arc divided and let to different tenants?

Sir J. GILMOUR

It would appear that apart from a small shooting let with an hotel, the shootings on Shiel estate are divided and let in two portions on one of which the proprietor retains for himself the grazing rights.

Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the Board of Agriculture have now offered the men who applied for small holdings on the Shiel estate land for small holdings; where it is situated; and how many miles distant from their present habitation?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The Board of Agriculture for Scotland have asked the agents for four of the applicants concerned whether these applicants are prepared to allow the Board to propose them to the proprietor of Waternish Estate in Skye for settlement on the scheme on that property which is distant about 70 to 80 miles from their present homes.
