HC Deb 22 May 1928 vol 217 cc1715-6W
Mr. STUART

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of applications received since 1912 for new holdings and enlargements in the counties of Moray and Nairn, and the number of these applications which have been granted?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The Board of Agriculture for Scotland have received applications for 64 new holdings and 21 enlargements of existing holdings in Moray and for 13 new holdings and two enlargements in Nairn during the period from 1st April, 1912, to 31st March, 1928. At the latter date only four applications for new holdings and 13 for enlargements in Moray and one application for an enlargement in Nairn were outstanding, the remainder having been withdrawn for various reasons. No new holdings or enlargements have been formed in either of the counties, but four applicants from Moray and seven from Nairn have been settled on properties acquired by the Board in other areas.

Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many acres of the Shiel estate were scheduled for small holdings?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The area for which a scheme of small holdings was considered extends to fully 10,000 acres.
