HC Deb 21 June 1928 vol 218 cc1772-3W
Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how much of the cost of military and civil establishments in Aden, which is not met by local revenues, fell, during the last completed financial year, upon the British Exchequer and how much on the Indian taxpayer; and what the respective figures were for the year 1922–23?

Mr. AMERY

The following is the information for which the right hon. and gallant Gentleman asks:

view of the decline in emigration, he is prepared to draft a new and comprehensive scheme of training and financial assistance extending over a period of 10 years or more; to amend the Empire Settlement Act in order to finance such a scheme; and to create a commission to carry it out?

Mr. AMERY

I shall be in a better position to answer the hon. Member's question when the Government have had time to consider the recommendations of the Industrial Transference Board.
