HC Deb 27 February 1928 vol 214 cc56-7W
Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether there has been any substantial increase in the price of meat in the Northern markets since the Ministry of Agriculture's Order prohibiting the landing in Britain of Irish livestock; and the approximate amount of fat cattle or pigs that are consigned weekly to the principal Northern markets from Ireland?

Mr. GUINNESS

From the limited amount of information at my disposal, it would appear that in the case of one or two markets the prohibition of the landing in this country of fresh livestock has had some effect on the prices of certain classes of livestock, but that generally prices have not been greatly affected. I regret that I have no information as to the second part of the question.
