HC Deb 20 December 1928 vol 223 cc3268-9W
Mr. RENNIE SMITH

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs if he can give any estimate of the wastage of Empire fruit which occurs in the course of passage from the producer to the consumer?

Mr. AMERY

The question covers a wider field than could be met by any general estimate. The subject, however, is an important one, and the Empire Marketing Board, in co-operation with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Governments of certain oversea parts of the Empire, have explored it systematically in the case of certain fruits. I am sending the hon. Member copies of some of the reports made as the result of these investigations.
