HC Deb 20 December 1928 vol 223 c3269W
Mr. DUCKWORTH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the British Government has approved the new Chinese tariff treaty: whether there has been any objection to recognising the principle of complete tariff autonomy for China and, if so, on what grounds; and whether he will state the main proposals of this tariff?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

His Majesty's Minister has to-day signed a treaty recognising China's complete autonomy in respect of the tariff. As regards the last part of his question, I would refer the hon. Member to pages 758 to 760 of the Board of Trade Journal for the 13th instant.
