HC Deb 19 December 1928 vol 223 c3038W
Mr. JOHNSTON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the date upon which the application for renewal of the club licensing certificate at 727, Springburn Road, Glasgow, was dismissed; and whether he will cause inquiries to be made into the authority under which this club operated between June, 1928, and the date upon which the application for renewal was dismissed?

Sir J. GILMOUR

As regards the first part of the question, the application was dismissed by the Sheriff on the 11th instant. As regards the second part, Sub-section (5) of Section 79 of the Licensing (Scotland) Act, 1903, provides that where a renewal of a certificate of registration has been applied for, the current certificate shall remain in force pending the final decision of the Sheriff for a period not exceeding three months, unless the Sheriff shall his discretion extend the time for a period not exceeding three additional months. I am informed that no extension was granted by the Sheriff, and that the date by which the club's operations accordingly fell to be terminated was 9th October, 1928. I am not aware that the club continued operations after that date, but I am making further inquiry on the point.
