HC Deb 18 December 1928 vol 223 cc2839-40W
Sir R. THOMAS

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the lighting of most country villages is inadequate for safety in view of the increase in motor traffic; and has he any data to show the number of fatal or nonfatal accidents, during any given period, which have occurred in villages or rural localities and have been attributed to inadequate lighting?

Colonel ASHLEY

I think that most drivers of motor vehicles use their headlights when street lighting in villages is insufficient to give a clear view of the road. My attention has not been specially drawn to accidents due to inadequate lighting, and I regret that I have not the data to which the hon. Member refers.
