HC Deb 04 December 1928 vol 223 cc1043-4W
Mr. C. WILSON

asked the Postmaster-General when the high-speed machine apparatus, as promised to the Sheffield Post Office, was installed; and whether it is in satisfactory working order?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

The high-speed apparatus to which the hon. Member presumably refers was installed on the circuit between the London Stock Exchange and the Leeds Post Office on 15th October, and has worked satisfactorily. The hon. Member will gather from my reply to his other question that this circuit no longer carries traffic between the London Stock Exchange and Sheffield.

Mr. C. WILSON

asked the Postmaster-General whether, before the wire between the London Stock Exchange and the Sheffield Stock Exchange was removed, any communication took place with the Sheffield Stock Exchange to ascertain whether traffic could have been increased or whether anything could have been done to ensure a larger use of the wire?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

No communication was addressed to the Sheffield Stock Exchange as regards the suspension of the wire between the London Stock Exchange and the Sheffield Post Office, to which the hon. Member no doubt refers. The wire has now been restored.
