HC Deb 04 December 1928 vol 223 cc1039-40W
Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Minister of Health the progress that has been made by the rating and valuation authorities in the preparation of the new valuation lists which are due to come into force on 1st April next; whether any local authorities are in arrears with the work of valuation; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to ensure that the lists shall be deposited in all areas before the end of the present year?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am informed by the Central Valuation Committee, who have been in correspondence with county and county borough authorities as to the progress made, that the general position so far disclosed appears to be satisfactory in nearly all the county boroughs, but in some of the county districts the work of preparing the new valuation lists is undoubtedly behindhand. My Department and the Central Valuation Committee are closely watching progress, and all appropriate and practicable steps are being taken to impress upon all authorities the need for depositing the lists under the Act of 1925 not later in any case than the end of this year.
