asked the Minister of Health how many and what proportions of parishes have councils and levy rates?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The number of rural parishes in England and Wales is about 12,800. Rather more than half of them have parish councils, and in a recent year some 60 per cent. of these councils raised rates.
