HC Deb 22 November 1927 vol 210 c1611W
Sir A. HOLBROOK

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the sale of Russian matches in the State-licensed premises in the Carlisle area; and whether he will consider the desirability of securing that all goods sold in these State houses shall be of British origin?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

The only thing I would add to the answer which I gave on the 10th November is that I am aware that since then it has been suggested that if I had made further inquiries I should have found that these matches were sold at other State-owned premises. I believed this to be untrue at the time, and I still believe it. I have made further inquiries.
