HC Deb 22 November 1927 vol 210 cc1613-4W
Mr. WHEATLEY

asked the President of the Board of Education if the investigations by the Scientific Research Association have reached such a stage in the extraction of oil fuel from coal that there seems a possibility of it being made a commercial success?

Lord E. PERCY

The experiments which are being carried out at the Fuel Research Station and Richmond, and the large number of similar experiments else- where, have proved the technical possibility of extracting oil fuel from coal, but it is, I think, obvious that the Government cannot and should not express an opinion on the commercial prospects of any process based on these experiments.
