§ Sir J. POWERasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how much of the present and of the pre-War expenditure, respectively, in the Defence Votes consists of expenditure not due to the current cost of maintenance of the armed forces of the Crown?
1437W
Mr. SAMUELIf my hon. Friend refers to non-effective services, the figure for 1913 was £6,915,900. The corresponding figure for 1927, to include the Air Force, was £16,663,700. If, however, my hon. Friend desires the segregation of capital expenditure and other similar items, and will indicate more exactly what he has in mind, endeavour will be made to supply the figures, provided a calculation can be made without a disproportionate amount of labour.
