HC Deb 21 November 1927 vol 210 cc1429-30W
Mr. BECKETT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been drawn to the case of Dhaturabai Kotak, a woman who was sentenced on 30th August to a year's imprisonment on the charge of carrying a dagger without a licence; whether this is her first offence; and, if so, whether he will have an inquiry made into the matter with a view to securing a modification of the sentence passed on her?

Earl WINTERTON

The facts of the case as reported in the public Press are that this woman took a prominent part in the disturbances at Nagpur and that the magistrate stated she had been regularly breaking the Arms Act for some time. My Noble Friend does not propose to take any action.
