HC Deb 17 November 1927 vol 210 c1133W
Mr. HARDIE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can give the cost of upkeep of stone or brick houses and also of houses known as steel houses, and, in the case of the latter, can he include the costs of repair, carried out by the firm supplying such houses, which do not appear in the ordinary re-pair accounts?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Sufficient time has not elapsed since the expiry of the contractors' period of maintenance in respect of even the earliest scheme of steel houses to permit of a reliable comparison between the cost of upkeep of stone or brick and of steel houses. The cost of repairs carried out by the contractors during their period of maintenance is not available.
