HC Deb 17 November 1927 vol 210 c1145W
Mr. C. EDWARDS

asked the Secretary for Mines what effect the French embargo on the importation of foreign coal has had on British exports of coal to France; and whether he can make any statement on the proposed withdrawal of this embargo by the French Government?

Colonel LANE FOX

It is difficult to say to what extent variations in our coal exports are due to the French embargo, but I am advised that licences have been obtained without difficulty for all British coal sold to France. Inquiries are being made officially in view of the statement in the Press that it is proposed to with-draw the restrictions, but for the moment I can make no statement.
