HC Deb 17 November 1927 vol 210 c1140W
Mr. E. WOOD

asked the Minister of Health the number of wives of insured men between the ages of 65 and 70 who will not be entitled to the old age pension under the 1925 Act until they reach the age of 70 because their husbands have attained the age of 70 before 2nd January, 1928; and what would be the estimated cost of giving these persons the pension at 65?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

It is estimated that on 2nd January, 1928, there will be approximately 45,000 wives between the ages of 65 and 70 of insured men who attained the age of 70 before 2nd January, 1928. To provide pensions for 45,000 persons would cost over £1,100,000 in the first year.
