§ Mr. KELLYasked the Minister of Health if the advertisement of the Far-ingdon Rural District Council, which appeared in the "Local Government Chronicle" of 5th November, 1927, for a fully qualified sanitary inspector, preference being given to a person holding the meat inspector's certificate, at a salary of £180 per annum, the inspector providing his own means of locomotion and his own office, was first submitted to him for his sanction in accordance with Article 8 of the Sanitary Officers Order, 1926; whether he sanctioned it; whether the salary is regarded by his Department as adequate to obtain and retain the services of a qualified and experienced sanitary inspector in a district having an area of 55,726 acres and a population of 11,075; and, if not, what action he proposes to take?
§ Sir K. WOODThe reply to the first two parts of the question is in the negative. On my right hon. Friend's attention being called to this advertisement he communicated with the district council indicating his view that the salary offered was low. My right hon. Friend is doubtful whether the council can expect to obtain the services of a competent officer for this salary, but he is at present awaiting information as to the applications received by the council.
