HC Deb 14 November 1927 vol 210 cc653-4W
Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether any financial assistance in the form of money or credits is being given by the Government for the construction of the Shield-hall Dock, Govan; and, if so, the conditions under which such assistance is being given?

Sir J. GILMOUR

A grant is being given by the Unemployment Grants Committee towards the cost of construction of the Shieldhall Dock. This grant represents 50 per cent, of the interest on the loan raised to meet approved expenditure, such grant to be operative for a period of 15 years, or for the authorised term of the loan, whichever is less. The grant was approved subject to the general conditions on which grants may be approved by the committee which were in force at the date of sanction, and also on condition that the work should be commenced by the 11th March, 1924, and completed within a period of four years. Other grants on the same basis have been made for dredging and other purposes, on different conditions as to commencement and completion of the works, but on similar general conditions.

A copy of the general conditions applicable to the scheme is being sent to the hon. Member.
