HC Deb 14 November 1927 vol 210 c653W
Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the average percentage increase of payment which has taken place in the case of the police in Scotland; and the same figures for school teachers since 1914?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The average pay of the police in Scotland during 1926 was, approximately, 170 per cent, higher than in 1914. The average salary of qualified teachers in schools under education authorities for the year 1925-26 was 158 per cent, in excess of the average salary of certificated teachers in schools earning annual grant in the year 1913–14.
