HC Deb 14 November 1927 vol 210 c655W
Mr. J. BAKER

asked the Secretary for Mines if he has any information showing the hours actually worked in French and German coal mines now and a year ago?

Colonel LANE FOX

The length of the shift for underground workers employed in the Rhenish Westphalian coalfield is now eight hours, as it was a year ago. In the Upper Silesian coalfield it has been reduced from 8½ hours to eight hours. In France, where no change has occurred during the past 12 months, it is from 7½ to 7½ hours.
