HC Deb 14 November 1927 vol 210 cc638-9W
Mr. PONSONBY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has anything to report to this House with regard to his conversations with the Spanish Prime Minister?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

When the Prime Minister of Spain learned that my short holiday would be spent in Spanish waters, he was good enough to offer to come to any convenient port to meet me, and I warmly welcomed this opportunity of making the acquaintance of the distinguished head of the Spanish Government, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs. Our conversation was of the most friendly but also of the most informal character. In the course of it I expressed to him my hope that Spain would resume her former full and valuable co-operation in the work of the League and we discussed, among other things, the question of Tangier, on which, as the hon. Member knows, conversations are proceeding between France and Spain, the results of which are to be reported to us when they are concluded.
