§ Mr. RUNCIMANasked the Minister of Agriculture what were the amounts paid in subsidies to the beet-sugar industry in each of the last two financial years; and what is the estimated amount of the subsidy in the coming financial year?
Mr. GUINNESSThe total amount of subsidy on sugar and molasses paid to British beet sugar factories in the manufacturing season 1925–26 was £1,124,207, and for the season 1926–27 is expected to be £3,200,000. It is estimated that the subsidy in the coming financial year will amount to £4,500,000.
