asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the respective number of Customs and Excise departmental clerks, basic grade men, who were appointed to that grade as a result of the following examinations: first Lytton and supplementary examination, Customs and Excise departmental examination, second Lytton examination, and Southborough examination, respectively?

The numbers of clerks, basic grade men, appointed to the Customs and Excise departmental clerical class as a result of the examinations mentioned and still serving in the class are as follow:

First Lytton examination (November and December, 1920), and supplementary session 41
Second Lytton examination (July, 1922), and supplementary session 145
Customs and Excise departmental examination (August, 1922), and supplementary session 94
Southborough examinations (July and December, 1925) 990
