Colonel DAY

asked the Home Secretary the number of proceedings that have been instituted under the Betting Duty Regulations; and the number of convictions obtained, together with the minimum and maximum amount of fines inflicted?

Mr. R. McNEILL

As I informed my hon. Friend the Member for the Everton Division (Colonel Woodcock) on the 15th February, the total number of prosecutions in connection with the Betting Duty was 44 up to the 8th February. Convictions were obtained in 39 cases. In the remaining five cases the offenders were dealt with under the Probation of Offenders Act, 1907. The minimum and maximum fines imposed were ten shillings and £100 respectively.
