asked the Secretary for Mines the existing earnings of hewers, timber men, and labourers to-day in the different coal areas under the operation of the respective agreements which they are operating?

No, Sir. I have no means of ascertaining these figures except by a special return from all collieries. The average earnings of all classes of workpeople in coal mines in different districts will be shown in the usual quarterly Statistical Summary, when in due course it is presented to Parliament.
