HC Deb 14 February 1927 vol 202 cc573-4W
5. Mr. SCURR

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the unsatisfactory conditions attending Indian labour in Mauritius have been reported to the International Labour Organisation in Geneva; and whether it is proposed to issue in this country any Report on the subject?

Mr. AMERY

I have been asked to reply to this question. I have received no report on the conditions attending Indian labour in Mauritius subsequent to that submitted by the officer who was sent to the Colony by tile Government of India in 1924 to inquire into the matter. This Report which, the hon. Member will recollect, was the subject of a question asked by him on the 23rd of July, 1925, and of the reply thereto, was published by the Government of India in 1925. A reference to it appears in the "Monthly Record of Migration No. 50," published in November last by the International Labour Office at Geneva. It is not proposed to issue any Report in this country on the subject of Indian labour in Mauritius, but I will arrange for a copy of the Indian delegate's report referred to above to be placed in the Library of this House, if hon. Members desire it.
