HC Deb 21 December 1927 vol 212 c434W
Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether any cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been reported in Birmingham or district during the last fortnight; what areas if any, are thereby affected; and, what number of cattle, sheep, and pigs, respectively, have been slaughtered in consequence?

Mr. GUINNESS

Six outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease were confirmed in the Birmingham district during the period 10th to 21st December, of which four were in the city itself. The infected area restrictions apply to an area of approximately 15 miles round Birmingham, which embraces portions of Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Sixty cattle and 70 pigs have been slaughtered by the Ministry as affected, or as having been exposed to the risk of infection.
