HC Deb 21 December 1927 vol 212 cc434-6W
Mr. DUCKWORTH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will consider the appropriateness of discussing with Japan and the United States the desirability of ascertaining whether an offer of the joint good services of the three Powers in endeavouring to assist in effecting a settlement of the present imbroglio would be favourably entertained by all parties in China?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

His Majesty's Government are in constant communication with the Governments of Japan and of the United States of America on all matters concerning their joint interests in China. While His Majesty's Government are anxious to take any proper action lying within their power that might assist towards the restoration of peace in China, I do not see any reason at present to believe that the stop suggested by the hon. Member would contribute towards the attainment of this end.
