§ Mr. RENTOULasked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether any restrictions have hitherto been imposed by the Polish Government on the quantity of British-caught fish permitted to be imported into Poland and, if so, what these restrictions are; and whether any alteration has recently been made or is anticipated in regard to these restrictions?
§ Sir B. CHADWICKThe importation of certain kinds of fish into Poland, including salted herrings in which the United Kingdom is mainly interested, has been prohibited except under licence for some time past. Recently the Polish Government, in response to representations by His Majesty's Government, undertook to issue licences for a substantially larger quantity of these herrings. I understand that the question of a further relaxation of the prohibition is now being considered by the Polish authorities.
