Mr. SAMUELThe number of officers in the general clerical class, including higher clerical officers, on the 1st October last was 23,523. As regards the number of writing assistants, I would refer the2516W hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Leith (Mr. E. Brown) on the 28th November last. Particulars as to the number of officers in the departmental clerical classes on 1st January next will be available early in the new year.
