HC Deb 07 December 1927 vol 211 cc1396-7W
Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, seeing that some compensation will be required to cover the losses incurred owing to the sequestration of the factories, shops, and stores of the Basle Mission Company in India, he is prepared to give an assurance that such action, having been directed by the home Government during the War, will not be allowed to involve the payment of compensation by the Indian taxpayer?

Earl WINTERTON

I cannot admit the accuracy of the assumptions under lying the right hon. and gallant Member's question, but, in any case, I am not in a position to make any statement in the matter at the present stage of the negotiations.
