HC Deb 12 April 1927 vol 205 c203W
Mr. LIVINGSTONE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the difficulties and extra cost of arranging a connection between the Stornoway mail boat and the early morning train to the South?

Sir J. GILMOUR

It is proposed that a new vessel, better and faster than the "Sheila," should be put on to this service, but the additional cost of providing and running a vessel fast enough to ensure connection with the early train at Kyle would be very heavy and greater than would be justified by the traffic and other conditions of the service. In addition to the extra cost, practical difficulties affecting other services would arise.
