HC Deb 11 November 1926 vol 199 cc1294-5W
Mr. FORREST

asked the Minister of Health what action it is proposed to take in regard to the recommendations of the Royal Commission on National Health Insurance.

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I cannot at present add anything to the answer given on this subject to the hon. Member for Kirkcaldy (Mr. T. Kennedy) on the 15th July, 1926.

Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that there is apparently a considerable disparity between the claims for treatment benefit made upon the several approved societies by their members, particularly in the case of dental benefit, which arises from the degree of information on the subject conveyed to the membership by the central offices of the societies; whether all approved societies have carried out the instructions contained in Circular A.S. 253, paragraph 15, issued by the Ministry of Health; and whether he will inquire into the method employed by all approved societies in informing their members of their rights in connection with additional benefits?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The number of claims for dental and other treatment benefits in proportion to membership undoubtedly varies as between the different approved societies, but this may be due to a variety of causes, and I have no evidence that it is to be explained by the failure on the part of some societies to carry out the requirement that they should send notice to all their members of the additional benefits provided. I do not think it necessary to inquire of every society as to the manner in which this requirement was carried out, but if the hon. Member will inform me of any particular case in which he has reason to think that the requirement was neglected, I will have the matter investigated.
