HC Deb 09 November 1926 vol 199 c911W
Colonel DAY

asked the Home Secretary if he is yet in a position to state whether the suggestions as to the reclamation of fallen women contained in the annual report of the Chief Constable for Glasgow for 1925 have yet been considered; and whether there is any intention of carrying out such suggestions in the Metropolitan Police area?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have seen a paragraph in the report referred to in which it is suggested that a Court shall have power to commit a woman found loitering for purposes of prostitution to a place of detention instead of inflicting a fine. Any such proposal would require legislation, but I will bear it in mind when I have before me the recommendations of the Young Offenders Committee.
