asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of arrests made, together with the total number of casualities, in connection with the recent riots in Calcutta?

The numbers of arrests made were 500 during the first phase of the riots,i.e., from the 2nd to the 12th of April, and 567 in the second phase, i.e., from the 23rd April to the 3rd May. The casualties, so far as they are known, were as follow:

The figures of injuries given include only those serious enough to require hospital treatment.
